The Big Plastic Count

The majority of UK’s recycling does not get recycled. Each time you wash your yoghurt pots, or keep those bottle caps on, you might be thinking you’re doing your bit for the environment.

But the truth is, you’re not. Our recycling is being sent overseas to be thrown in landfill, burnt, or illegally dumped.

Our job was to raise awareness of the problem and encourage people to join The Big Plastic Count - the first in-depth investigation into where it all goes.

We then wrote to MP’s – those all too aware of the problem – giving them a chance to vote for change…

Environmental charities suspect 45% of the UK’s recycling is sent to Turkey. So we wanted to draw public attention to this growing problem.

And finally, we asked people questions about their recycling, at the point they needed to hear it the most
